1919-1922
Baltzar von Platen and Carl Munters are two young Swedish engineering students with a crazy idea. They are convinced that the best way to create cold is to use heat.
They believe in this idea so passionately that they regularly skip classes to work with it. Finally, after many long days and even longer nights, they manage to design a refrigerant container with no compressor, no moving parts and no ice.
By simply applying heat to a boiler, a cooling agent circulates in the system, absorbing the heat and thus creating a refrigeration effect. That "container" was the first refrigerator in the world.
1923-1925
The container is granted a patent. Even the great Albert Einstein is impressed and calls their invention a stroke of genius. The same year Arctic, a Swedish company whose name could not be more appropriate, acquires the manufacturing rights.
Electrolux, an expanding household appliance company, did not take long to see the potential of the invention and in 1925, the company acquired Arctic. In the years following the Second World War, refrigerators found their place in all middle-class homes. Sales amount to millions of units.
1950-1970
In the 1950s, Electrolux began to penetrate the leisure market, particularly in America, where a massive post-war economic boom is underway. To strengthen its presence in a fast-growing segment, the company acquires cutting-edge innovations and strong brands whenever and wherever a good business opportunity presents itself.
1970-TODAY
In 2001, Electrolux sells to EQT, a private equity firm and Dometic now has to stand on its own feet. In 2015, Dometic becomes a public limited company and its shares are listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
