Equipped with a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) solar controller, the BCDC1240D charges simultaneously from both solar and the alternator. With the built-in 'Green Power Priority', it will select solar charging first, which means less load on the alternator.
Suitable for 12 or 24 volt vehicle systems, the unit will also work with standard or variable/smart alternators.
The BCDC1240D also features patented charging profiles, including a lithium charging profile perfect for pairing with a REDARC lithium battery. The 'Dual' input range will continue to charge all other battery types, including AGM, GEL, standard lead acid and calcium.
As a guide, the BCDC1240D is used for battery banks larger than 200AH. For smaller 75-200AH batteries REDARC recommends the BCDC1225D.
When one or more solar panels are connected to the BCDC, the unit automatically always uses all the energy coming from the solar panels, and then (in case the vehicle has the engine running) it will compensate the current, if necessary, taking it from the alternator.
Example
If the battery and system require 30Amp, I can get 10AMP from the solar panels, the BCDC will only draw 20AMP from the alternator.
This function is very important on new Euro6 vehicles because it allows you to reduce stress on the alternator (requiring less current) and consequently reduce consumption and pollution.
The maximum amount of current that can be supplied through the solar panels is always limited to 40amps like the alternator.
Note: to be able to provide 40Amp from solar panels you will need to have at least 550-600Watts of solar panels and they will need to be lit in the ideal condition (90° sun)

Tried and tested
BCDC's award-winning technology has been independently verified and tested to ensure maximum battery life, charging the battery to a proven 100%.*
*Large capacity battery banks may require a few cycles to fully charge.
Built in Australia and tested for our unique conditions, the DC to DC charger will operate in the extreme heat of the Simpson Desert, up to 80°C and can handle deep water crossings to Cape York - water, dust and vibration are no match for this charger.
If you are going into the bush and want to get there and back safely, you can trust REDARC.
