History
ButanGas was born on 13 December 1948.
The first LPG depot was built in the hinterland of Milan; the plants were then transferred to Taliedo. The Naples coastal depot dates back to 1951 and today, with its 18,710 m3 of total storage, is one of the largest in Southern Europe.
In the following years other factories were inaugurated: Porto Torres (1955), Catania (1956), then Bari (1960), Mantua (1961), Porcari (1962) and Pescara (1968).
Having consolidated its position on the national market of liquid gas in cylinders, ButanGas focuses on its distribution in small LPG tanks for use by commerce, services and small industry and for domestic heating in those areas not served by city gas.
The Founder
ButanGas was founded by Giuseppe Costantino Dragan, born in Lugoj (Romania) on June 20, 1917.
In 1940, after graduating in Law in Bucharest, he obtained a scholarship thanks to which he moved to Italy, where he obtained his second degree at the Faculty of Political and Economic Sciences of the La Sapienza University of Rome.
Realizing the economic potential of LPG, a little-known product after the war and founded ButanGas Spa, in the following years it expanded its business in Europe, opening associated companies in Austria, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Morocco and South Africa, creating the first core of what will become over the years the ButanGas Dragan Group, today the Veroniki Holding Group.
